DMC DALI to DMX512 Signal Converter | Bi-Directional Lighting Protocol Interface
DMC DALI to DMX512 Signal Converter | Bi-Directional Lighting Protocol Interface
Overview
The DMC DALI/DMX512 Signal Converter is a professional interface device designed to bridge DALI control systems with DMX512 lighting networks. It enables DALI masters to control DMX512 fixtures or DMX decoders with smooth dimming, accurate signal mapping and stable communication performance. Suitable for architectural, commercial, entertainment and smart lighting projects, the DMC simplifies integration between the two most widely used lighting protocols.
Key Features
- Converts DALI signals to DMX512 protocol
- Allows DALI controllers to operate DMX512 luminaires and decoders
- Supports DALI DT6 for single-channel dimming applications
- Supports up to 512 DMX channels
- Programmable channel mapping for precise assignment of DALI addresses to DMX channels
- High-speed, stable digital signal output
- Smooth 0–100% dimming with high-resolution data conversion
- Multiple DALI addresses can be mapped to DMX channels for multi-zone or multi-fixture control
- Built-in protection for signal integrity and system stability
- Compact housing suitable for control cabinets and junction boxes
Technical Notes
- The converter works as a bridge: DALI in → DMX512 out.
- Each DALI address can be assigned to one or multiple DMX channels.
- Supports DT6 dimming, allowing smooth control over DMX dimmers, decoders or fixtures.
- Up to 64 DALI addresses may be used depending on system design.
- Ideal for integrating architectural DALI systems with entertainment-grade DMX lighting.
- DMX output follows industry standards for cabling, termination and addressing.
- Ensures stable communication even in long-run DMX installations when properly terminated.
- Incorrect addressing may cause lighting misalignment; always follow your project’s DMX patching plan.
Wiring & Installation Notes
- Connect DALI bus wires to the DA+ and DA– terminals; ensure a DALI power supply is present.
- Connect the DMX output (D+, D–, GND) to the first DMX fixture or decoder.
- Use proper twisted-pair DMX cable for DMX512 communication.
- Terminate the last DMX fixture with a 120Ω resistor for optimal performance.
- Assign DALI addresses and DMX channels according to the lighting design plan.
- Install indoors in a dry, ventilated location (IP20 rating).
- Follow DALI and DMX wiring conventions to avoid signal conflicts.
- Mount inside a control panel, cabinet or junction enclosure.
Applications
- Integrating DALI building control systems with DMX-controlled luminaires
- Architectural and commercial lighting projects
- RGB, RGBW and multi-channel LED installations via DMX decoders
- Bridging automation systems with stage-lighting DMX equipment
- Hotels, retail, malls, museums and façade lighting
- Any project requiring protocol conversion between DALI and DMX512
